Thankyou to all those who contacted us and especially to those who visited us and applied for the position.
Our founder Simon Thompson is retiring as musical director at the end of this year (July 2026).
We started looking for a new MD back in the spring.
This is a statement from Simon:
"I've decided to step down from the MD position at the end of the summer term. Having started the choir in 1992, and witnessed some highlights and memories locally, nationally and in Norway, it's an incredibly difficult decision. In retirement from work, the time is right to prioritise Hardip (my wife) and family. Both Jason (Chair) and the committee have gracefully acknowledged this request to pull back from a musical leadership role.
The support I've received from everybody over 33 years, 25 active as MD and 8 while with Bjorn in Norway has been phenomenal. The choir is in great shape due to the hard work of you all - the committee, Joan, Sally, Music committee and every single individual singer.
I want to continue to sing as a member and offer any new leader any support they may require. It is a wonderful team to be a part of!
Thank you ST"
Applications are now closed.
We have auditined two applicants at rehearsals this term followed by an interview by a small panel representing the choir and committee where appropriate.
Above is a document outlining the role of MD for WBSS.
